It's time to be full time conservationists
As anglers, we understand that good fishing depends on healthy, intact habitat. And, while simple awareness is a good thing, we’re often left wondering how we can make a difference, particularly in our local watersheds where we spend the most time on the water.
It’s tough, as a single voice, to affect change when it comes to protecting and improving the watersheds in our backyards. But when we come together as a community of conservation-minded anglers, we can make a real difference. Fortunately, there are organizations around the country devoted to amplifying the voices of anglers with a conservation conscience, and getting involved is easy.
How to pack for your next fishing trip
Summer time vacation season is here and that means some fly fishers will be headed out to the rivers to get some fishing in. Others might be getting ready for some epic travel — what better time to go on an adventure.
Still others might be planning more traditional sum trips to places like the Rockies, Alaska or the venerable fishing lodge hidden in the black spruce forests of the boreal north.
Keep your fly line working for you
A fly line is an investment. This simple fact is something a lot of anglers overlook. Often, this investment is among the last things anglers devote attention to. And that’s a mistake.
We’ll rinse off our fly rods, reorganize our flies and make sure our waders and boots are good and clean - sometimes before and after a day on the water.
But, too often, when we reel up after the last cast of the day, that’s the last time we think about our fly line. Can you think of anything else that you’ll spend upwards of $100 on and simply ignore?
